Teleradiology is the electronic transfer of radiology images to a distant location. Healthcare reform and advances in computer technology are providing the impetus for increased use of teleradiology. Four aspects of a teleradiology systemimage acquisition, compression, transmission, and displayare discussed. Speed and image quality are affected by variations in design.
