Department of Diagnostic Ultrasound, Loma Linda University Medical Center, 11234 Anderson Street, Loma Linda, CA 92354 Recent developments in ultrasound technology and interpretation suggest that sonographers may be able to distinguish between benign and malignant breast masses more accurately than was previously believed possible. This article reviews and illustrates the sonographic signs that suggest benign and malignant disease, and discusses the accuracy and limitations of the method.
