To report a case of tranrsitionalacCell carcinoma of the bladder that 0as deftected at the time of early amniocentesis. A 37-year-old duoparous woman, gravida 5, presented at 13 weeks gestation for amniocentesis because of advanced maternal age. Ultrasound examination revealed a polypoid' Cmass;; within fthe bladder. At cystoscopic biopsy 2 weeks later, a transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder was found. The patient underwent: cystoscoic resection of the tumor at 18 weeks gestation and delivered at term wi1thoutfurther complication. One year after delivery, there was no cystoscopic evidence of disease. Early deftection of this bladder cancer by ultrasound led to prompt diagnosis and therapy during pregnancy. The diagnosis would have been m:imssed without a distended bladder.
