Spokane Women's Clinic, Spokane, Washington. The authors present a case report of a 31 year-old woman who hemorrhaged for 2 weeks after a dilation and curettage for retained products of conception. Transvaginal sonography showed a perforation of the uterus at the fundal aspect of the endometrial cavity. Using transvaginal sonographic guidance, a balloon-tipped catheter was placed in the fundal aspect of the endometrial cavity and the balloon was inflated, to tamponade the presumed bleeding of the fundus. The patient stopped hemorrhaging soon after the procedure and was discharged after transfusions and antibiotic therapy were completed.
