Dissection of the Common Carotid ArteryDepartment of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia; 127 Redford Drive, Grovetown, GA 30813. Dissection of the aorta is a common catastrophic event affecting the aorta. However, aortic dissections do not normally extend into the common carotid arteries. This case study discusses such an occurrence and the role of sonography in its detection and diagnosis.
