Gender Abnormality: A Prenatal Ultrasound Diagnosis
Ambiguous genitalia is a rare finding. A prenatal diagnosis of this anomaly can be beneficial to the management of the patient. The patient can be offered genetic counseling and additional testing. Also, the patient can deliver in a facility that is experienced in treating this anomaly. Testing immediately after birth facilitates an early gender determination. The authors present this case of a true hermaphrodite, meaning both female genitalia and testicular tissues are present.
Key Words: ambiguous genitalia undescended testes hypospadia perineal region phallus hermaphrodite pseudohermaphrodites
