Prenatal Sonographic Diagnosis of Congenital EpulisMaternal-Fetal Medicine Department, Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. Sonographic prenatal diagnosis of congenital anomalies has been proven to be an invaluable tool in the management of pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal treatment of affected newborns. Congenital gingival granular cell tumor, or epulis, is a rare intraoral tumor that may cause polyhydramnios and possibly severe respiratory and feeding complications at birth. Sonographic diagnosis of this tumor provides the opportunity to plan the mode of delivery, the presence of support teams to assist in airway maintenance, and surgical correction.
