Ultrasonography of a Gastroduodenal Artery Pseudoaneurysm

Elizabeth W. Ayers, MS, RDMS, RVT

Splanchnic artery pseudoaneurysms are not often encountered but are clinically significant because of the high mortality rate with rupture. Sonography is a noninvasive modality that can be used for assessment of the presence or absence of blood flow and in post treatment follow-up to confirm whether the intervention was successful. In this unusual case, sonography with color Doppler was used to evaluate a gastroduodenal artery pseudoaneurysm before and after angiographic transcatheter arterial embolization, facilitating the diagnosis and treatment of this vascular phenomenon.

Key Words: pseudoaneurysm • gastroduodenal • splanchnic • color Doppler
