University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha A pessary is a device similar to the outer ring of a diaphragm that is placed into the vagina to help reposition and support the uterus or bladder. It is a common method for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. Numerous pessaries are available, and selection is based on pathologic condition and patient comfort. After a pessary is placed, patient follow-up is necessary to determine if it is working correctly.
