Cooper University Hospital, Camden, NJ Echocardiography is routinely used to evaluate diseases of the pericardium, including effusion, tamponade, and, to a lesser extent, constriction. Doppler evaluation provides information regarding the attendant alterations of cardiac filling. This review details the role of echocardiography in the diagnosis and management of common abnormalities of the pericardium.
