Duplex Evaluation of Incompetent Perforator Veins and Sonography-Guided Radiofrequency AblationVNUS Medical Technologies, San Jose, California, kblnc123{at}hotmail.com Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a debilitating disorder that causes millions of Americans to suffer lost wages and forced lifestyle changes. If left untreated, CVI can progress from varices and skin changes to nonhealing venous stasis ulcerations. The condition is often associated with incompetent perforator veins (IPVs) as a result of prolonged elevated venous pressure due to either an obstructive process or venous valve damage. Duplex assessment is a simple and efficient technique used to identify IPVs. This case study reviews the role of sonography as it pertains to the use of the Radiofrequency Stylet, a relatively new device designed to treat IPVs.
