A Goal-oriented Approach to SonographyThe Role of the SonographerOhio State University Hospital, 260 Doan Hall, Ultrasound Department, 410 West loth Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210. Diagnostic medical sonography has experienced rapid technological development since the static-scanning era of the '70s up to the current age of real-time sonography. However, some physicians have not kept pace with these advancements in technology. The result is an inefficient use of equipment and underutilization of the skills of the sonographer. This-article suggests ways in which sonographers can incorporate their own knowledge and experience into the examination process in a professionally acceptable manner.
