Radiology Departments of Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio; St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center, Lorain, Ohio; Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Rootstown, Ohio The results of in vitro experiments and animal studies using a wide range of ultrasound intensity levels are reviewed. Somatic, genetic, and teratogenic effects of ultrasound exposure in mammals are examined. The weaknesses of the studies and their clinical applications are discussed.
