DOI: 10.1177/875647939100700604 A Reevaluation of the Use of Sonography in the Renal Transplant
Department of Diagnostic Ultrasound, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, California. In spite of recent disappointment with Doppler assessment of acute rejection in cases of renal transplant, sonography remains a valuable means of assessing the transplanted kidney. Sonography can aid in the evaluation of transplant anuria, deteriorating renal function, and postsurgical hypertension. Although the sonographic findings are sometimes nonspecific, they often contribute invaluable information that clarifies the clinical picture. In this report, sonographic findings in urinary obstruction, urinary leak, extrinsic transplant compression, acute rejection, arterial narrowing, arteriovenous shunt, and segmental infarction are reviewed and illustrated.
